We are satisfied we have managed to accomplish such a double digit increase in passenger’s number on an annual level, which is higher than EU average and higher than region’s average. We will continue in such direction in 2017 as well, focusing our main goals on the route network expansion at Skopje and Ohrid airports, cooperating with the Government, all involved institutions competent for aviation, and airlines, states Alper Ersoy, TAV Macedonia General Manager.

According to passenger traffic, Istanbul (both airports Ataturk and Sabiha Gokcen) is the most frequent destination from Skopje Alexander the Great Airport in 2016, with 12,6% market share, followed by Zurich with 10,2%, Vienna - 6,3%, Basel - 5%, Malmo - 4,8% and London with 4,3% market share.

This increase is mostly due to the increased freight for export, but also the individual orders through internet transported by air were more popularized during the last year.

2016 was very successful for boosting the traffic at Ohrid Airport where an extraordinary passenger growth of 39,2% was made on an annual level, quarterly spotted by Airports Council International (ACI) in 2016 as the fastest growing airport in its category.

Besides the significant annual air traffic increase, last year is marked as succesful for TAV Macedonia also due to ASQ (Airport Service Quality) award Skopje Airport has received for the 3th time in the last 5 years, from ACI (Airports Council International) – being named as the Best Airport in Europe in terms of airport service quality, in the category of airports under 2 million passengers.
