TAV PROMOTES OHRID AIRPORT IN ALBANIA: DISCUSSIONS FOR INTRODUCTION OF A SHUTTLE BUS FOR PASSENGERS BETWEEN ELBASAN AND OHRID AIRPORT
29 May 2019

TAV Macedonia, today in Elbasan, Albania, presented the opportunities for affordable travels from Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport and Skopje International Airport for the citizens of Albania, on a meeting with the local touristic agencies in this central Albanian city.

Additionally, to the promotion of Skopje and Ohrid airports’ route networks to the touristic agencies of Elbasan region, TAV Macedonia emphasized the importance of establishing a regular shuttle but service from Elbasan to Ohrid Airport, since an introduction of such a regular bus connection will truly put into the operation the proximity between the 2 cities, that are just 1,5 hour or 86 km car drive distance.

-Ohrid Airport is really close to Elbasan, just 1,5-hour car drive, and yet the two cities don’t have regular bus transportation connections. Albania and particularly Elbasan is in our catchment area with great potential for Ohrid Airport. Consequently, affordable air travel connections of Ohrid Airport and the geographical proximity of the two cities, can be utilized in full capacity, if we jointly put our efforts into achieving this goal. Therefore we are here today to inform the local touristic agencies and the Albanian public, about the benefits they’ll feel if they choose Ohrid Airport for their journeys, stated  Nejat Kurt, TAV Macedonia Deputy General Manager for Operations , after the meeting with the local tour-operators, held in Elbasan, Albania.

As TAV Macedonia officials noted in Elbasan, Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport currently has 18 destinations in total, from which 8 are regular routes through the whole year and low cost at the same time: Zurich, Basel, Vienna, London, Malmo, Milano, Memingem and Dortmund. The other 10 destinations from Ohrid Airport are seasonal, from April till October: Amsterdam, Brussels, Istanbul, Tallinn, Tel Aviv, Warsaw, Eindhoven, Katowice, Maastricht, Adana.

The airlines that currently fly from Ohrid Airport are: Wizz Air, Edelweiss, Germania Flug, Pegasus, Onur Air, Corendon, Eurowings, Brussels Airlines, TUIFly, Nordica, Enter Air, LOT and Helvetic.

TAV Macedonia also informed that potential passengers from Albania can get more information by visiting Ohrid Airport web-page:  http://ohd.airports.com.mk  where they can find contact numbers from Ohrid Airport, as well as contacts from the airlines that fly from Ohrid, from where they can get the information related with the flights tickets.

Besides, the promotion of Ohrid Airport, as the closest point from Elbasan, TAV Macedonia today in Albania promoted Skopje International Airport’s 42 destinations as well, presenting the huge development that has been achieved at both airport in terms of passenger’s growth, in the last 10 years, after TAV’s entrance on the Macedonian market.

Only earlier this month, Ohrid Airport has been ranked by Airports Council International (ACI) as one of the top 3 airports in Europe, according to highest passenger’s growth rate in the first quarter of 2019, which is 63,9%, significantly higher than the EU average of 4,4%.

TAV Macedonia continues to mark passenger’s number increase in the first months of 2019. From January until April 2019, a total of 694.227 passengers traveled through both airports – Skopje International Airport and Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport, which is 10% increase compared to the same period of 2018.

The company finished 2018 with 2,3 million passengers at both airports and annual increase of 16%.
